April 13th, 2024: Exploring Nature in Nevada
Tap into nature and sustainability with us at this month's STEAM Saturday! This month we are connecting beautiful Nevada Nature to the Neon Boneyard through learning about the Yucca which inspired the Yucca Motel sign and the desert rose which inspired The Desert Rose Motel. We’ll explore the native animals of the Nevada desert, discover what it means to live a more sustainable lifestyle, learn about water conservation, create artwork with plants, and much more.

May 18th, 2024: All About Weather!
Rain or Shine let’s learn about weather! This month we’re learning about how weather can affect the Neon Boneyard. We’ll create our own prints using sonography, learn about wind through designing your own pinwheel, discover how lightning and thunder form, and dive deep into how the Neon Boneyard is affected by different types of weather.
June 22nd, 2024: Lights, Camera, Action
Las Vegas is home to a very robust entertainment industry. Clowns, magicians, dancers, actors, singers, musicians, comedians, writers, and designers come from all over the world to practice their craft in our city. This month we will take a look at the Neon Boneyard collection and connect with the entertainers who have made Las Vegas their home. Let’s explore different careers in entertainment by creating personalized puppets, designing show posters, practicing our performance skills, and much more!
July 13th, 2024: Think Like a Curator
What does a curator do? The Neon Boneyard wouldn’t be what it is today without the help of a curator, so let’s learn all about curation and the important role they play at The Neon Musuem. While we bridge the connection between curation and our collection, you will design your own mini exhibit, complete a condition report, discover the challenges of an outdoor museum, test your skills at historic paint matching, and learn about everything that goes into conserving our collection.
August 24th, 2024: Creating with Color
Do you love colors? Want to learn how they work and how to use them? Then join us for a colorful event where you’ll explore the science, art of color, and how that connects to our Neon Boneyard collection. You’ll learn how to mix colors, create optical illusions, learn about color psychology for signs, and make your own rainbow. Don’t miss this chance to brighten up your day with creativity!

So, why do neon signs glow? We'll give you the answer at this STEAM Saturday all about glowing! This month we will go through the Neon Boneyard collection to discover neon buzz, that neon signs aren’t just neon, and so much more. Together we will discover why animals glow through bioluminescence, create your glow in the dark slime, and so much more. This is a glowing Saturday, you won’t forget.
November 16th, 2024: Motion Commotion
Let your child explore the dynamic intersection of sports, force/motion, and art in an engaging and interactive learning experience. We are going to look at the Neon Boneyard through the eyes of a sports fan, connecting our collection to sports through our Neon Boneyard scavenger hunt. We will navigate the boneyard to learn about rooftop pickleball at the Plaa, lacrosse at Mandalay Bay, the international racetrack at the Stardust and Jai Lai at the Tropicana. We will race into learning physics with the marble run, try to beat gravity through the art of hula hooping, and get moving with a boneyard obstacle course. This is a motion filled STEAM Saturday you do not want to miss.
December 14th, 2024: Investigating Electricity
Are you ready to spark some fun with your family? Join us for an electrifying event where you’ll discover the wonders of electricity. Throughout the Neon Boneyard we dive into a scavenger hunt where we will learn about neon buzz, the different types of lightbulbs used in the boneyard, and how units of neon are like Christmas lights. You’ll discover the art of circuitry through paper circuits, create static electricity with balloons, see how lightning is created, what sustainable energy means in Nevada, and much more.
